Christmas on Netflix! And A Christmas Giveaway!

So it’s freezing. It’s the first of December, acceptable to play Christmas music and resolve to change your ways in January (sure, whats the point when Christmas is around the corner and you can just make them New Years resolutions soon?). It’s also now acceptable to call a Giveaway a Christmas Giveaway (see more information below!)

In our house we’ve been having more days in – with the weather taking a turn for the colder and wetter, and the evenings getting dark much earlier, it’s become a nicer thing to settle down in front of a show or a movie, with tea and let the hours drift by. And now that it’s officially December and the shops have decided to belt out Mariah Carey, it’s okay to watch Christmas specials!

Some of our favourites this month have been:

Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special

Not unlike much of the rest of the series, this is filled with hilarious moments and has a feel-good buzz to it. As everyone spends Christmas together, Gavin and Stacey have a startling announcement. It’s even got a singalong! Essential viewing for any Christmas, and perfect for with a cup of tea and a mince pie. To make matters even better, theres also a behind-the-scenes episode directly following it on Netflix which is well worth a look – James Corden and Ruth Jones do fantastic work!

Mickey Mouse Twice Upon A Christmas

Who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse? This is a great family feature – five stories containing the main Disney kids characters, each retelling a Christmas tale. I remembered the Once Upon a Christmas film from my own childhood and loved it, so was happy to find that this one measured up! Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is a hit in our house anyway, so E had his attention held for a few minutes, and the storylines were good for the adults to watch too – something definitely appreciated! Really liked a Mission Impossible style feature with Donald Duck’s nephews attempting to get onto Santa’s Good List – great for a family day curled up watching!

Bob the Builder: Snowed Under

We’ve become big Bob the Builder people in this house: it keeps E quiet, and us adults are laughing at poor Wendy and her mooning over Bob who doesn’t seem to notice that she’s madly in love with him.. This is the Winter Olympics, Bob the Builder style. Where diggers can ski. Because, yeah, realism. Not a bad way to spend half an hour – can we take it? Yes we can.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug

Okay, so technically this one isn’t a Christmas film, but its quite likely to be shown on a lot of channels as a feature film over the Christmas holidays. The second of the The Hobbit Trilogy, this one is a long one, but well worth an afternoon with some microwave popcorn on the sofa! Some incredible graphics and fantastic storytelling as Thorin and his band of dwarves flee the Orcs, pushing Bilbo toward a confrontation with the dragon Smaug in the second installment of the Hobbit saga.

As the weather remains cold, I’m happy to be having an excuse to settle down infront of  some much-loved oldies, and some new stuff as well!

In the Christmas Spirit, as promised in the title, there is indeed a giveaway! Thanks to Netflix who have offered very generous prizes, hopefully one of you will have an even cheerier start to Christmas!

Oh I love Elf too – think I might let the kids watch it this year if it doesn’t give too much away. So many Christmas movies are on the theme of not believing!
