Scary Or Sexy: A Hunt for a Halloween Costume

Brownies-3

Ah, that time of year again. Gone are the “bikini-body” workouts being flaunted in every magazine, newspaper and bathroom stall scrawl, enter the confectionary-filled holiday season which begins at the end of October. Not that anyone has told the local Tesco, who have been stocking selection boxes since before schools went back last month. Yes kids, the one time of year where it is not only socially acceptable, but rubber stamped okay to ask strangers for sweets and accept them from them without feeling creeped out or violated in any way.

Countdown to Christmas

IMG_2550

The countdown to Christmas is officially started. Mariah Carey is being overplayed at all angles. Nights out where you hit twelve pubs and wind up unable to remember much of it are the norm, and tacky jumpers are the couture of choice. Ah yes, Christmas, the time of Mince Pies, Golden Barrels and getting tangled in the Christmas lights.  Read More

Happy Bits of The Week

Happy Bits of The Week

It’s been a quiet enough week here, thanks to lack of broadband (and internet access for the most part – rural Wexford and E Mobile are not friends, its like reverting to the land God forgot). It’s been really nice, a break away from the city for a week, to recharge the batteries, and having E spoilt rotten by every person we come across. He’s been a bit of a teething mess this week, poor little pet. Still no sign of any white dots, just a poor frustrated mite who is going to dissolve the skin on his hands soon from all the chewing (Sophie la Girafe gets hugs, not chews, he prefers his fists it seems). A Day Trip to Fota Wildlife Park

A Day Trip to Fota Wildlife Park

I’ve been living in Cork city for five years now, since I came down as a fresh faced student in September 2009, when it seemed awfully big to me. Nowadays I’m still enamoured with the place, don’t get me wrong, but it is always lovely to get out of the city for a bit and vary up my daily wander with the tiny man. We managed to get a weekday with his Daddy being off work on Tuesday, and the sun was shining properly so off we trekked to Fota early in the morning for a bit of a change. Read More

Our Trip To Lake Hotel Killarney, Paradise Where The Sun Shone

At 12 weeks old, we deemed Eliott old enough to go spend some bonding time with his grandparents in Wexford without us. They raised three kids and got them all through secondary school, as of last week, so it felt okay trusting them with a baby who stays put when you put him down and generally quietens his screams if given a bottle. All grandparents have offered the break, so we jumped at the chance and off we went to Killarney, Co.Kerry. It was a long promised trip that we’d kinda put on the long finger when we were busy being pregnant and sleep deprived.

Holidays to Wexford

We’re off to Nanny and Grandad’s for the week to be looked after, and to get a bit more variety on our wander around the city. Up to rural Wexford, where you can actually see the stars at night, and for some reason, the child sleeps… Latest discovery is glycerine and aniseed for the dummy. He loves it. Keeps the dummy in his mouth, keeps him calm and he sleeps. Between that and the swaddle blanket, he settles himself in the Moses basket. This hopefully isn’t a Wexford exclusive.Image Read More
