St Patrick’s Day 2018 – Family Friendly Events in Cork

St Patrick’s Day 2018 – Family Friendly Events in Cork

Ireland’s national holiday, St Patrick’s Day, falls this Saturday, 17th March. Each year, we celebrate St Patrick, the guy who got the credit for bringing Christianity to Ireland (apparently Palladius didn’t kick up enough of a stink about it). Each year, we have parades and family events as well as a bank holiday. St Patrick’s Day has a reputation for being linked with alcohol consumption, so I’m encouraged to see how many family-friendly events are taking place this year. I did a roundup of the events happening in Cork in previous years and people seemed to find it helpful. Hopefully, this may be of help to you in picking what you are doing with your family that day.

Family Friendly St Patrick’s Day in Cork 2017

Ireland’s national holiday, St Patrick’s Day, falls this Friday, 17th March. In celebration of St Patrick who got the credit for bringing Christianity to Ireland (apparently Palladius didn’t kick up enough of a stink about it), we have parades and family events as well as a bank holiday. St Patrick’s Day has a reputation for being linked with alcohol consumption, so I’m encouraged to see how many family friendly events are taking place this year. I did a roundup of the events happening in Cork previously and it went down well. As of yet I’ve not found a concise list of events in Cork, so this may be of help to you in picking what you are doing with your family that day.

It’s that time of year again folks. Paddy Day. Lá le Phadraig. St Patricks Day. (Never St. Pattys Day/Pattys Day. Just NO.) The people of Ireland go out in the freezing cold, scoffing down contraband chocolate (it’s a bible sanctioned day off Lent, don’t you know?), probable rain, to line the streets of villages, towns and cities to watch children and adults dressed up as patriotic things like octopuses, fire trucks and dragons. Theres even the odd mention of St Patrick and Christianity, which is supposed to be the focus of the day. The day tends to end with people having a single beverage and quietly making their way home after. Or something.

There are a lot of different events on each year for St Patricks Day around the country; entire festivals formed around our National Holiday. In Cork alone, theres loads to take a look at. These are some of the things that stood out for me as potential bits to pop along to – let me know if I’m missing out on any absolute gems in the comments below!

My highlights list goes as follows…  Read More
